Life over here is wonderful. The week-end of my birthday I stayed in Bangkok, just because of the fact that this city is so big and there is so much to explore. There are people who say Bangkok is just this big, filthy city covered in smog. However, if you look through the smog you can see that there is so much culture, business and beauty in Bangkok. Many would maybe know Bangkok as the city of ping-pong shows, partying and associate the city with the movie ‘’the hangover’’. However, Bangkok or as locals say Krung Thep Maha Nakhon has way more to offer.
The three words I would to describe this weeks are. Mind-blowing, Culture-shock and Prosperity.
The city is always awake and many political, cultural and social activities are in Bangkok. Bangkok is also even related through professors and teachers of our Education as an even better city than New-York. This statement is debatable and everyone is free of their own opinion. But, it explains very well of what a booming and interesting city Krung Thep Maha Nahkon is.
During the week-days I spend my time mainly in Nonthaburi, which is the area our school and apartment is located. The week-days are full of studying, exercising and socializing. Occasionally, we end the day with a Singha which is my favourite local beer in Thailand. Week-days go very quickly while school days are long and intense. However, the international relations minors still excites me. The classes are full of discussions and debates. Which makes the day never boring. During my observations at class I was shocked about the leak of understanding of differences in cultures and states. Sensitive topics are discussed as gay rights, the rights of immigrants, the responsibility of nations to support third world countries, environmental issues and so on. Many different opinions are shared at this discussions by different cultures. South-Africa, Zimbabwe, Dutch, Italian and many more. However, we are so focussed on our own beliefs, norms and values that we forget to listen to others and to empathize. Therefore, to understand international relations you must dig in to history of nations and their culture.
Since I was so caught up in School and my week-end trips I did not write for a couple of weeks. The weekend before this weekend. The weekend of 23th of February. We celebrated my birthday. Obviously, as everyone know I love to have a little bit of luxury, so we went to a fine-dining place and together with ten friends of my we celebrated my 22 birthday. The food was amazing and the wines even better. After drinking only drinking Singha’s since my stay in Thailand as an alcohol beverage a good Sauvignon is always appreciated. After the dinner, we went to Koh San Road. The party area of Bangkok. There other students from different nationalities joined us and we had a lot of dances and laughs. The day after we were supposed to eat at THE street-restaurant of Bangkok. The name of this restaurant is Jay Fay’s. The restaurant itself doesn’t look luxurious. However, the food is described as amazing.
Especially the Thai crab omelette. Together with a couple fellow students we made a reservation on the waiting list and went to a temple to enjoy our crab omelette afterwards. Unfortunately, after two hours the waiting list was only 10 reservations further. As we were 27th in line we decided to come another time and make a reservation beforehand. A little disappointment we went to our next adventure. Together with two friends of mine we went to the Infinity pool party of SO Sofitel hotel in Bangkok. The party was a bless and the music on point. Together with the guys we had a great time over here.
After the week-end normal week-days just occur. Sleep-Eat-School-Eat-Repeat.
Luckily, on Thursday we were already off and we went traveling to two different islands. Ko Samui and Kho phangan. The first day we arrived at the Hostel and together with the group we enjoyed the lovely island of sumai. Great beach. The water is beautifully blue and the sands are very white. Next to that, it was not so busy in this area. This day was a public holiday for Thailand. Therefore, we were off from school. You go Thailand! The day after we went to Ko phangan. Which is the party island for the Full moon parties. The trip already with our mini van was like a roller-coaster ride in Walibi. Very entertaining and for some of us a little scary. This evening I suffered from stomach problems. However, I did not want to miss the full-moon party, so I stumbled through and had a great time. There is variety in music and to party with so many different nationalities on the beach is a blast! When you go to Thailand you just must go to a full moon party. I do not know if I would go again. But, it was something I can cross from my bucket-list. After two days of surviving in hostels I would say we went to our Villa. The villa was comfortable and pretty. After koi phangan we went back to Ko samui again where our Villa was located. The Villa had this amazing view over the island and in the evening, we could look at the stars from our balcony and have great talks.
To conclude, Life is pretty over-whelming here. But, I love every second. Sometimes you forget to be fully conscious of this amazing time. Like you are living in a dream.
As every blog I close off again with Sabai, Sabai.
